Sheridan is filled with amazing historical sites and battlefields that will please any history buff. Between brutal stories of the battlefield, culture on the frontier, and discovery of modern sciences, our humble town is the perfect history hub for guests touring Wyoming. Here’s where you’ll figure out which highlights are worth visiting once you arrive.

Bradford Brinton Museum

Address: 239 Brinton Rd, Big Horn, WY

The most popular museum close to Sheridan is the Brinton Museum down in Big Horn, Wyoming. Here you’ll be able to learn about frontier life, with guided tours of the Historic Ranch Home, smaller sheds and outbuildings, and an old leather workshop. On top of this, the Brinton Museum offers a peek into American Indian history and art. Younger kids will love the scavenger hunt on the nature trails.


The Brinton Bistro

If you feel at all hungry, there’s an on-site restaurant in The Brinton Bistro. This brunch and lunch restaurant offers delicious burgers and salads that will keep you healthy and happy during your visit.


Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument

Address: Interstate 90, Battlefield Tour Rd, Crow Agency, MT

Hours: 8AM - 4PM

Custer’s Last Stand was one of the most brutal battles of the Indian Wars in the late-nineteenth century, and you have the chance to see some of the battle sites on your visit to Sheridan, and the memorials dedicated to the Indians and American Soldiers who died in battle.


It’s a somber, quiet place, but it’s a site that should be on history buffs to-do list. You’ll have time to reflect on the reasons why the war was fought and the lives that were lost.


Big Horn County Museum

Address: 850 Sibley Cir, Sheridan, WY

Hours: 9AM - 5PM

Distance from Our Campground: 5 minutes; 3 miles


For a basic run through of Wyoming’s history from ancient times to modern day, Big Horn County can give you the rundown. From exhibits on prehistoric creatures through old archaeology, to the founding of the great Cowboy State, Big Horn County Museum has a lot to see and love.


Trails End Museum

Address: 400 Clarendon Ave, Sheridan, WY

Hours: 1PM - 4PM

Distance from Our Campground: 11 minutes; 5 miles


This beautiful mansion in downtown Sheridan is a gorgeous museum that gives you a deep walkthrough of the elegant lifestyle of the 20th-century. Mansion tours are $4 per resident guest and $8 per Non-Resident guest. Visitors can wander the halls of the museum and the gardens outside, and ask questions of the tour guide.


Wagon Box Fight

Address: Wagon Box Rd, Buffalo, WY

Distance from Our Campground: 25 minutes; 20 miles


The Wagon Box Fight was another difficult battle between Native Americans and the pioneers who had traveled out to Wyoming. It was a long, difficult battle between the Army and the Indians, neither of which came away the winner. Learn the ins and outs of this conflict when you come to Wagon Box Road.


307 Discovery Center

Address: 556 Broadway St, Sheridan, WY

Distance from Our Campground: 8 minutes; 4 miles


Not a historical museum by any means, but a fun place for children to play scientist in a safe environment. The Discovery Center regularly has events talking about different topics, so keep an eye on the calendar if you’re bringing the kiddies along for the ride.


There’s also VR Escape Rooms for people who love puzzles.
